Hanwag make some models with BIO Leather as uppers. As a lining they use chrome-free tanned leather which is anti-allergic. A footbed made of leather and cork rounds off the concept. The origin of the hides is also of course important. Hanwag purchase all their BIO Leather in Croatia from the Viviani tannery. The over 80-year-old, family-run company buys the hides from Croatian smallholders with certified bio farms. This certification complies with EU standards. Where cattle farming is concerned, bio certification means that the animals are put out to pasture the whole year round. They only receive fodder without any chemical additives and no concentrated feed is given.
CompoSole is the first fully bio-degradable outsole for alpine and trekking boots (industrial composting at 70 C). The outsole offers good cushioning, good traction on softer ground (forests, grass etc.) and a very good flex. With full-length cushioning.
Reduced Seams
Fewer seams reduce the risk of rubbing and pressure points. Hanwag uses a special technique, which makes it possible to reduce the number of seams.
